José Contreras - has been guest conductor with the National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominician Republic and conductor of Scott Joplin’s opera Treemonisha on Broadway. He founded and was music director of the Brooklyn Heights Chamber Music Society Orchestra and has also conducted the Washington Square Park Festival Orchestra and the Opera Orchestra of New York. The recipient of a conducting fellowship, Berkshire Music Center, he also received the Gabriel Faure Prize for Conducting, France; the Premio Firenze in Conducting, Florence, Italy; and the Martha Baird Rockefeller Grant for internship with Thomas Schippers and the Cincinnati Orchestra.
