St. Nicholas Ave

St. Nicholas Ave named for Santa Claus, was once called "Ann Street" (as was Charles St), whomever Ann was... she seems to have had powerful friends in City Hall, though not powerful enough for us to have prevented her name from famming into oblivion. It seems that a number of street names in this area are unclear as to origin. Probably they were named after the wives or children of the developers. [1]
