Third St, First St, Second St, and Fourth St's are on land one owned by Sheppard Homans, Jr. a partner of William Walter Phelps. Together they had so much land that perhaps he simply ran out of friends and relatives to name streets after, and simply started numbering them. But it is surprising to see numbered streets at that time in history.
